I’ve seen this for beer, but it’s a first for wine labels. This came off a 2009 bottle of Volteo, a Garnacha/Garnache from Spain. The label lets you know when it’s ready to drink by the little message that appears when chilled: ‘Drinking Temperature OK’. The graphic also gets a little blue outline around it (look closely). Somehow I can’t see this on my boutique wines, but it’s a brilliant addition to my supermarket wines. I wonder how much the price/bottle is on these? Anyone know? Do you see these often? The VineGeek wrote a feature on these back in 2009 (obviously when the wine was bottled). I’m a little behind the times, but not the only one who thinks these are fun!
What I’d like to see next is something that shows me how perfect the wine is in terms of serving temperature. For example, something like a mood ring that has the color for the perfect temperature of the wine bottle on the label and maybe a sleeve of some sort that you could easily slip over the bottle that changes colors (a-la aquarium thermometer style). This way I’d know exactly how far off the temperature is one way or the other. The current version remains the same regardless of how cold it is. Cheers!
