Tasting Notes: Graff Family Vineyards 2009 Mourvèdre. Opened October 2012. Brick red wine with medium aromatics of red fruit which really opens up after 1 hour (used an aerator). This is an oaked wine with a slightly tannic finish. I purchased for $15.00 and would consider it a reasonable price point. I paired this with roast chicken and it was good. The second night it was paired with Italian and it was fabulous! Enjoy~

What’s Your Price Point?

So the other day I was out with friends and we were discussing wine (surprise, surprise, I know). One of the topics which frequently comes up is price. What’s your price point for wine? I’ve come up with situation price points and have listed them below. Are there others? I’m a self-identified ‘wine enthusiast’, so these are according to my lifestyle at the moment.

What price would you readily pay for a decent (according to your taste buds) wine without thinking twice?
What price would make you stop before you pulled out your wallet?
What price would you consider for a ‘special’ occasion?
What price would you brag about to your friends/relatives if someone else treated you?
What’s your everyday price point?

Keeping in mind that I’m firmly in the working middle class and wouldn’t benefit from Romney’s proposed capital gains tax breaks, here are mine: (1) $10-$15; (2) $30; (3) $35-$45; (4) $75+; (5) $7-$10.

Tasting Notes: District 7 2009 Pinot Noir, Monterey, CA. Opened October 2012. I’ve had the opportunity to drink this wine twice in the past month or so. District 7 is a new label for me, so I’m not terribly familiar with their other wines. This is a old-world style Pinot Noir, not your typical Monterey berry bomb in a glass (not at all jammy) – which makes it unique in my cellar. Earthy, notes of cherry, slightly oaked, medium length on a balanced finish. This is a chewy wine that should be consumed with roasted meats/vegetables. A bargain at the $15.00 mark.
